Purple Spotted Gudgeon (Mogurnda mogurnda)

A robust Australian native gudgeon with a mottled brown body and distinctive purple spots, the Purple Spotted Gudgeon is a hardy, characterful bottom-dweller. Mostly active at night, it has plenty of personality but grows large enough to eat small tank mates, so choose companions carefully.

  • Temperature: 20–26°C
  • pH Range: 6.5–8.0

  • Diet: Sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, blackworms, prawn
  • Max Size: 15–20cm
  • Lifespan: 5–8 years
  • Care Level: Easy to moderate

Tank Mates: Medium to large robust fish such as Australian rainbows, larger tetras, and catfish; avoid small fish that could be eaten.
