Black Diamond Head Tetra (Moenkhausia pittieri)
The Black Diamond Head Tetra, also known as the Diamond Tetra, is a striking freshwater species native to the rivers and streams of Venezuela. Named for the shimmering, scale-like iridescence on its body and the distinctive dark marking on its head, this medium-sized tetra grows to about 2.5 inches and is prized for its glittering appearance under aquarium lighting.

Care:
These tetras are hardy and relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. They thrive in water temperatures of 75–82°F (24–28°C), with a pH between 6.0–7.5. A well-planted aquarium with dim lighting and open swimming space brings out their best coloration. Keep them in groups of at least 6 to reduce stress and promote natural schooling behavior.

Community Tank Role:
Black Diamond Head Tetras are peaceful and make excellent community fish. They get along well with similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates such as other tetras, Corydoras, Gouramis, and small rainbowfish. Their active yet non-aggressive nature adds movement and sparkle to the midwater region of the tank.

Note: Their shimmering silver bodies and subtle head markings become even more vivid with age and proper care, especially when kept in a calm, stable environment.

A beautiful and dynamic schooling fish, the Black Diamond Head Tetra brings elegance and energy to planted and community aquariums alike.
