Native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea, the Purple-Spotted Gudgeon is a striking freshwater fish known for its brown-golden body covered in vivid purple to red spots. It inhabits slow-moving streams, billabongs, and creeks with plenty of cover. Compact yet robust, it grows up to 15–20 cm and is popular for its bold personality and vibrant colouring.
