Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher)

Origin & Appearance

The Kribensis is a small, colorful cichlid native to West African rivers and streams, particularly Nigeria and Cameroon. They are well-loved in the aquarium hobby for their bright yellow to orange belly, iridescent body, and purple or red fins. Males are slightly larger with more pointed dorsal fins, while females display the signature vibrant belly, especially when ready to breed. Kribs are peaceful compared to many cichlids and are suitable for community tanks with non-aggressive tankmates.
