Standard Crystal Red Shrimp (CRS) (Caridina cantonensis)

Care Description

Standard Crystal Red Shrimp are a popular selectively bred freshwater shrimp known for their red-and-white banded patterns. They are moderately sensitive and require stable water conditions with clean, soft, slightly acidic water. These shrimp are peaceful, active, and best kept in planted tanks or aquariums with moss, rocks, and hiding spots. They feed on algae, biofilm, and high-quality shrimp foods.

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Hardness: 4–6 dGH (soft water preferred)

• Tank Size: Minimum 20–30 L for a small colony

• Behavior: Peaceful; best kept in groups of 6 or more

• Diet: Omnivore — biofilm, algae, specialized shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables

• Tank Setup: Planted tank with hiding spots, moss, and gentle filtration; maintain stable water parameters

• Breeding: Standard CRS are moderate breeders; females carry eggs under tails; fry are small and require stable water

• Lifespan: 1.5–2 years
