Borneo Sucker (Gastromyzon sp.)

A fascinating, flat-bodied loach adapted to fast-flowing, oxygen-rich streams, the Borneo Sucker clings to rocks and glass with its specialised fins. With its mottled brown and gold pattern and constant algae-grazing, it's both unusual and practical for high-flow, well-oxygenated tanks.

Care at a Glance:

  • Minimum Tank Size: 75L with strong flow, smooth river stones, and sand
  • Temperature: 20–25°C (needs cool, oxygen-rich water)
  • pH Range: 6.5–7.5
  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderate
  • Temperament: Peaceful, bottom-dwelling, can be territorial with own kind
  • Diet: Algae wafers, blanched zucchini and cucumber, frozen bloodworms
  • Max Size: 5–7cm
  • Lifespan: 5–8 years
  • Care Level: Moderate (needs high oxygen and water flow)

Tank Mates: Other hillstream species, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, small rasboras; avoid warm-water or slow-moving species.

Origin: Borneo — fast-flowing streams
