Also known as the Siamese Fighting Fish, the Betta is a popular freshwater aquarium fish known for its flowing fins, vibrant colours and distinctive personality. Bettas are relatively easy to care for and can make a striking feature fish in a well-maintained aquarium.

Care at a Glance:

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20L
  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • pH Range: 6.0–7.5
  • Temperament: Generally peaceful with suitable tank mates; males are highly territorial toward other male Bettas
  • Diet: Carnivore — high-quality Betta pellets, frozen and live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp
  • Max Size: 6–7cm
  • Lifespan: 2–5 years with proper care
  • Care Level: Easy to moderate

Tank Mates: Peaceful, non-fin-nipping species such as small rasboras, peaceful tetras and Corydoras can be suitable in an appropriately sized aquarium. Male Bettas should not be housed with other male Bettas.
